Create Systems That Last: How to Reduce Overwhelm and Gain Control with Simple Daily Habits

Updated: Dec 2

Busy women often juggle multiple roles, leaving little time for maintaining order at home or in life. It's easy to focus on the end goal—whether it’s a tidy house or smoother daily routines— but as James Clear in his book Atomic Habits teaches us, the key to lasting change isn’t just about goals. It’s about building systems and habits that make those goals easier to achieve.

  1. Shift the Focus from Goals to Systems

When you set a goal (or outcome) like "I want a tidy home," you create unnecessary pressure. But if you focus on setting up a system that makes tidying easier—like a dedicated basket for kids’ shoes—you'll stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed. Likewise, if your goal is to run a marathon or 5K, rather than focus purely on those goals, think about the steps (no pun intended!) you can take to get fitter and then build those steps into your daily routine. By changing your behaviour in small, manageable steps, you're far more likely to reach your goals. This is where my 2-hour 'Streamline My Day Package' comes in, helping you implement long-lasting solutions to manage your day-to-day tasks and habits effectively.

  2. Make the System Enjoyable

Habits are easier to stick with when you enjoy doing them. Take going to the gym as an example. You’re far more likely to stick with it if you join a community and look forward to seeing the people you workout with. The same principle applies to your home. Turn tidying up or organising into an activity you look forward to. Whether it's folding laundry while listening to your favourite podcast or sorting through clutter while enjoying a cup of tea, these moments can feel less like chores and more like little pockets of enjoyment. Likewise, and to use the 5K example, why not use the Couch to 5K app and be guided through the process - it breaks everything down into small manageable steps and before you know it, you're running 5K!

  3. Design Your Environment for Success

Your environment plays a critical role in shaping your habits. If you want your family to put their belongings away, have obvious areas to put things, e.g. a tech drawer for laptops, tablets and cables or easy to reach hooks for school bags and coats. If you’d like a clutter-free kitchen, create zones that naturally guide you to tidy as you go, e.g. tea and coffee should live near the mugs and kettle.

My 2-hour 'Blitz Package' offers hands-on help to redesign your space so that it's set up for success, ensuring it works with your lifestyle, not against it.

Instead of fighting the same battles over and over, shift your focus to building supportive systems and habits that make daily tasks easier, quicker and more enjoyable. November is the perfect time to set yourself up for success as we move into the festive season.

Let’s create lasting systems together with the help of my 2-hour Blitz or Streamline My Day Packages.
